Retail marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Retail marketing - Essay Example As Hahn puts it, it is the strength of the online shopping business like that of eBay that is inherent by the fact that it is online (Hahn, 2006). Use of the internet allows both the sellers and bidders to participate in online auctions from anywhere in the world. A seller let’s say in China can put up a doll in an online auction site that can be bid on by bidders that reside in the United States. In essence due to the absence of territorial barriers made possible through the use of the virtual space, items can be purchased by technically everybody anywhere in the world. Inherent in the worldwide interdependence of buyers and sellers is the comfort given to the buyers. The buyer simply sits in front of the computer, logs on to the online shopping site, uses an e-money, then waits for the delivery of the product. There is no longer a need for personal visit on stores which could require much effort especially for busy buyers. The Internet offers variety that is simply impossible in traditional stores (Postrel, 2004). Definitely, buyers do more than purchase items of their choice because they also work or study. More than the comfort offered by online shopping, time is saved for other purposes. Basically, the cost of participating into internet auctions through various retail agents is zero (Hahn, 2006). Online shopping also allows buyers to customize their products, as well as benefit from cheaper prices. As buyers are purchasing directly from the supplier, it eliminates the need for retailers and distributors who often add to the cost of the product . Postrel (2004) found that prices on the Internet were 6 percent to 16 percent lower than prices off-line. Aside from the fact that purchase through online auctions saves time, it also allows the buyer to offer a bid at the time convenient to him since there are time constraints (Miller and Layton, 2000). Re-circulating Aquaculture Biofloc Systems in Deserts Research Paper

Re-circulating Aquaculture Biofloc Systems in Deserts - Research Paper Example The waste discharge as well as the use of chemicals or antibiotics to fight diseases is minimal. It is known that for at least 30 years, it has been under development. Unlike other methods which clean water from fish tank, there has been incorporation of aquaponics to some RAS fish farms (Lee and Richard, 18). Since biofloc systems are designed to improve environmental control over production in areas where there is water scarcity, such as desert in this case, or where land is expensive, more intensive aquaculture forms are required to be practiced for production that is cost effective. Economic incentive is considered to be strong for aquaculture business to be efficient in terms of production inputs, particularly limiting water or land. Biofloc systems were as well designed to prevent disease from being introduced into the system from the incoming water. Basing on the above, it can be affirmed that this system well fits the project that is to be staged in a desert where there is scarcity of water among other limiting factors. Shrimp farming, marine shrimp production in ponds, tanks and impoundments origin can be traced to South Asia. In this case, farmers were seen to raise wild shrimp incidental crops in tidal fishponds (Mungkung, 4). The birth of shrimp farming was in 1930s the time Motosaku Fujinaga ,a Tokyo University graduate became successful in Kuruma shrimp spawning(Penaeus japonicas) (Mungkung, 8).The larvae were cultured by him in the laboratory whereby in so doing this, he was successful in mass-production of these shrimp on a commercial scale. He then shared his research findings for at least 40 years and his work was published in 1942, 1941, 9167 and 1935.Emperor Hirohito had to honor him in 1954 with the title Inland â€Å"Japonicus Farming Father† (Mungkung, 4). Hatcherymen and fishermen started to supply large quantities of seed stock in the mid 1970s,

Marketing Plan Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Marketing Plan - Essay Example The sports drink is prepared through a blend or combination of water, electrolytes and carbohydrates with an aim of helping athletes to recover the electrolytes and energy that is lost during vigorous sports activities. The scientific formulation is presented by the PepsiCo to its market through variant brands such as orange, lemon lime, strawberry kiwi, citrus cooler, fruit punch and blue cool (MarketWatch, 2010). Industry Definition Regardless of the improved performance of the brand in the market, the level of competitiveness in the sports drink market has increased significantly. This is due to new entrants into the market, substitute products and application of competitive strategies by the key players within the sports drink market. In this regard therefore there is a need to develop an effective marketing plan that will be used to enhance the performance of the food drink within the market in addition to achievement of a competitive advantage in the market as opposed to rival products (Zmuda, 2008). Company Analysis PepsiCo, the parent company that produces Gatorade aims at becoming a leader in the production and sale of sports drinks within its markets across the world. This is achieved through an effective strategic leadership approaches and a corporate culture that is focused at high quality human resource management, quality in production, innovativeness and effective marketing (Stanford, 2011). The company’s performance and challenges within the market can be understood through an analysis of its strengths, weaknesses, available opportunities within the market in addition to threats within its markets. The strengths of the company are demonstrated by the high quality of its sports drink, Gatorade. This sports drink is scientifically formulated with elements that are required by individuals who are engaged in strenuous sports activities. Additionally, Gatorade has gained a significantly strong name of its brand within the market. This is attri buted to the popularity of the parent company and the promotional strategies that are employed in popularizing the brand within its local and international markets (Sterrett, 2009). The effectiveness of the scientific formulation in allowing individuals to excel in the physical performance of their exercise and sports activity has led to winning of the loyalty of the customers for the brand. Gatorade sports drink is however faced with weaknesses such as low visibility and advertising and unawareness of the consumers on the benefits of consumption of the product during sports, training and exercising activities. The relatively high price of the product is also argued to be one of the major weaknesses of the brand. Pepsi Co has many opportunities for enhancing the performance and competitiveness of Gatorade within the market. This includes more promotional activities through an integrated marketing communication approach and the use of celebrity endorsements of famous sports personali ties to popularize the brand within its market. In addition, the company has market opportunities of venturing into new scientific formulations such as protein regimens. The company would also add more nutrients to the Gatorade formulation such as vitamins. This is an opportunity that will allow the company to compete with rival brands and sports regimens that present the consumers with highly

Thus it aroused the suspicions of the game show host and of law enforcement officials. However, before the last question, he was arrested and interrogated by the police , who suspected him of cheating because of knowing all the answers with little education. Key words: Slumdog Millionaire, brotherhood, poverty, love, money. Slumdog Millionaire, telling the story of Jamal Malik, a former street child, from the Juhu slum of Mumbai who appears on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and was one question away from winning 20 million rupees. Thus it aroused the suspicions of the game show host and of law enforcement officials. However, before the last question, he was arrested and interrogated by the police , who suspected him of cheating because of knowing all the answers with little education. The story revolves around the interrogation of Jamal and the police. Jamal accounted that the incidents in his life which provided him with each answer. In the end, Jamal won the grand prize and met Latika at the railway station and kissed. It reveals that the lower in India. Jamals flashback reveals that the various injustice and difficulties the lower in India confront and the development of the society. The British director, Danny Boyle often express tragedy by drawing support from comedy, such as his best known film Trainspotting ,which is absurd and ridiculous but actually bleak and sad. Jamal, Salim and Latika grew up together after they had lost their family in a religious conflict. They were born in an urban slum, where was full of garbage and flies. Garbage and slums became the symbol of India at that age. They thought of themselves as three musketeers. The story of three musketeers would begin anew. But I am wrong, theyve wandered over cities in India. The reality was cruel, no matter how hard they tried, they were still in lower class. Destiny always play jokes on people. They were taken by Maman, the leader of a crime syndicate, who tricks and trained street kids into beggars. When Salim found that Maman was blinding children in order to make them more effective as singing beggars. Jamal and Salim ran away, and Latika didnt. Latika became the pain of Jamal. We live in a real world, which is full of injustice. Love is the language people all know from all over the world. Two naÃÆ' ¯ve kids tried their best to live, vendor, guider, nomad. At Jamals insistence, they had come back to find Latika. They rescued her and Salim killed Maman. For some reason. Jamal was separated from his brother and Latika again. While years later, Jamal was a tea server at an Indian call centre, he found his brother and his beloved girl. Salim was regretful for his past actions and only begged for forgiveness when Jamal physically attacked him. While Jamal admitted his love for her, Latika asked him to forget about her. Jamal promised to wait for her every day at 5  oclock at the VT station. Latika attempted to run with him, but she was recaptured by Salim. Jamal loss contact with Latika when Javed moved to another house, outside of Mumbai. Knowing that Latika watched it many times, Jamal tended to make contact with her again by becoming a contestant on the show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. He made it to the final questiont, At last ,the love bird met in the railway station and kissed. Life is dear, love is dearer price. Both can be given up for freedomalmost everyone can recite Petofis poem. However, how many young men consider freedom is dearer than love at this age ¼Ã… ¸ There was always a girl in Jamals heart from he was a little boy to a young man, her name is Lakita. They had been separated twice in their life, and Jamal tried his best to find her every time. Once he told Lakita I know I will find you, it was our destiny. I dont know where theyve taken her. I went to the show (Who wants to be a millionaire), because I thought she would be watching, Jamal said th the police quietly. No mater where they come from , no mater what regime, race, skin, class and belief, people feel love. In this film, one of the most important figure , Salim, who had a strong enthusiasm to money. He was born in poverty. He wa.nted to get rid of it eagerly and this thirst led him to an apparently inexorable path. Finally .he realized that after what hed done ,the most important thing was not money ,but happiness. He couldnt go back where he was, his wish was to rescue his brother and his girl. He helped Latika and killed Javed. With his dying breath, Salim gasped that God is great. As Jamal describes the specific incidents that led to his being able to answer each of the quiz show questions, he is simultaneously telling several stories, tales of the link between brothers, the never-ending battle with poverty, the lure and pitfalls of crime and the rapid modernization of India. In my view ,I dont think Jamal could live without his brother. Although Salim was bad, he wanted to protect his brother deep down the heart. He sacrificed himself. These are the theme of Slumdog Millionaire-love, thirst and brotherhood. Notes: 1.Specifically, in the Kumar article, Boyle referred to Deewaar (1975) by Yash Chopra and Salim Javed , Satya (1998) and Company (2002) by Ram Gopal Verma, and Black Friday (2004) by Anurag Kashyap 2. Some of the other Indian films cited by Boyle as reference points for the film include Satyajit Rays Pather Panchali (1955), Mira Nair films such as Salaam Bombay! (1988), Ashutosh Gowarikars Lagaan (2001), and Aamir Khans Taare Zameen Par (2007).

Deborah Talls From Where We Stand :: Deborah Tall Where Stand Essays

Deborah Tall's From Where We Stand In her book, From Where We Stand, Deborah Tall, tells us the story of coming to Geneva, New York, to begin teaching. It is a personal account of coming to terms with a new and foreign place. It gives us the chance of watching her learn about landscapes, people, and history. It moves through time, through her own life, and especially through motherhood. In the end, and after more than a decade, she gives us the signs of what it means to live out of and within the place where you are. Perhaps the poet is uniquely qualified to consider this issue of place. When Martin Heidegger attempted to understand "place" and "home," he turned to poets like Friedrich HÃ ¶lderlin. Similarly, we can read poems and essays by Gary Snyder --- for instance, The Practice of the Wild or A Place in Space --- or N. Scott Momaday --- for instance, The Man Made of Words. Wallace Stegner's Where the Bluebird Sings to the Lemonade Springs is a collection of essays about "living and writing in the West." John Brinkerhoff Jackson takes us on a tour of American landscapes in his book A Sense of Place, a Sense of Time. And Wes Jackson's Becoming Native to This Place is based on his personal experiences of settling in a little formerly abandoned Kansas farm town, to establish his Land Institute. Virtually all of these writers share a common feeling that mainstream American society has lost its roots. With our extreme mobility we have lost connectedness with the land. We tend to avoid what is unique and defining of landscapes and to look for what is common or universal. When we drive through small communities, we stop to eat at the Burger King or McDonalds instead of investigating Aunt Sue's Loggers' Cafe. In a way, we have invented "everyplace" by universalizing the common things that we expect and seem to need --- familiar motel facades, common fast food menus, universal cable TV access, etc. But what these authors question is whether "everyplace" is really a "place" at all, hence, whether it serves the needs of being grounded in a place, knowing a landscape, feeling the history of habitation, belonging. Here are some personal observations. When Mammoth Mountain was aggressively developed as a ski resort, in the early 70s, traffic began picking up on US395, running through the town of Bishop.

Beloved Duncan Murdered Essay

The flow of blood stopped and History recorded a tragic death. King Duncan over the past ten years has proved to be the most trusted noble. He is a good and Godly man, friend to the poor and defender of the downtrodden, but unfortunately he is no more with the people of Scotland. On the grim evening of November 10th, the great King Duncan of Scotland was murdered in his chamber. According to the porter, King Duncan was paying a visit to the castle of his Thane, Lord Macbeth, during the time of his death. The porter further mentioned that Lord Macbeth had arranged a grand feast for the king and his sons during their visit to Macbeth’s castle in celebration of Macbeth’s new titles. After the feast, drunken guests resided to their correct chamber and no disturbances were recorded throughout the night until the following morning when the King was found lying dead in his bed with multiple stab wounds to the chest. The main suspects of this unexpected murder include the King’s two sons as well as his guards. The guards were found the next morning with the murder weapons, along with blood smeared all up and down their body. However, Duncan’s sons fled the scene and are also suspected for the murder of their father. In an interview with Lord Macbeth he stated, early in the morning, two noblemen, Macduff and Lennox were called to the castle to visit King Duncan, but when they entered their king’s chamber they exclaimed â€Å"o horror, horror, horror!† Macbeth also stated, â€Å"before the investigators could examine the scene, the chamberlains were killed as a punishment for committing this gruesome deed.† Macbeth was very upset throughout the duration of the interview. He expressed his distress and great loss by showing his love and affection for the King and said he will do everything in his power to find the killer and punish him. An interview with two Scottish nobleman was also held follow the murder of King Duncan. During his interview, Lennox commented on what a terrible  night it had been. He said the wind had blown chimneys down and described how it howled so terribly, but unfortunately refrained from further questioning about the murder to uphold the family’s wishes for privacy. Macduff however agreed to answer more questions. Macduff stated during his interview, â€Å"It is speculated that the king’s sons had bribed the guards to kill Duncan because the crown passes to the nearest eligible kin.† After hearing the news of their father’s murder, King Duncan’s son’s, Malcolm and Donalbain, fearing their lives, fled Scotland. It appears to the people of Scotland that the son’s hasty departure makes them prime suspects of the crime. King Duncan’s body was removed from Macbeth’s chamber in order for burial preparations. The King’s remains will be buried in the king’s burial grounds in Scotland. Once news of the murder was released to the public, the people of Scotland began mourning for their beloved king and immediately began focusing all efforts on uncovering who committed this foul deed. Unfortunately, this tragic murder remains unsolved. Investigations will continue until this mystery is solved. Townspeople are encouraged to come forward with any and all information that may lead to solving of this crime.

Indias culture has created a disregard for compulsory educa essays

Indias culture has created a disregard for compulsory educa essays India has existed as a parliamentary democracy since its independence from Britain in 1947. One would assume that since India is a democracy, that they would have well developed compulsory education policies. However, compulsory education policies do not exist in India. India has been changing rapidly over the last decade, but has failed to do anything about education or the welfare of its children. As a result only sixty percent of its children attend school beyond grade five and the literacy rate among the adults in India lies only slightly above fifty percent, according to the United Nations Children Fund, (unicef.org). Indias culture is the cause of Indias total disregard of compulsory education which has created one of the largest child workforces in the world. Therefore, many of the children in India hold jobs as early as three years old. Many drop out of school early and many never attend school at all. Although India has been on a path towards modernization, they have not modernized in their way of thinking or in their set of beliefs. Weiner (1991; 55) describes this well with the case of Uttar Pradesh, (who has been Indias Secretary of Labor), whose family were agricultural laborers and did not send their children to school. They did not send their children to school not because they were poor and needed their children to work but simply because it was not the custom for his fathers family to send their children to school. The custom of not sending children to school was simply what Uttars family did. His father was not sent to school; therefore he did not realize the need for his children to go to school. This is a big problem in India. Indias government does not emphasize the need for children to be in school, thus children are sent to work and not always because the family needs financial support. They simply just do what their parents did. This custom is deep...

Cooperative Strategy Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Cooperative Strategy - Case Study Example This is so especially when the industry wants to accrue most benefits from the collaboration. For the case of Apple inc. the joint ventures are the most appropriate. For instance through joint alliances with their companies such as HP, the company would benefit from designing software that will create network links with the two companies (Hitt, Ireland & Hoskisson 263). This combination will create a more competitive Apple as opposed to it working alone. The same applies for HP that would benefit for multiple partnerships from other companies such as IBM (Hitt, Ireland & Hoskisson 270). This will help HP create value for its products and still come up with a means of sharing resources and become more innovative in its creations. Hitt, Ireland & Hoskisson also say that through these alliances, firms gain access to their partners; thus, an increase in the chances of competitive advantage in the market

Information proposal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Information proposal - Essay Example Most people are unaware about their own role in starting such fires and there is a need to inform the public regarding the same. People often undermine their own role, and mistakenly think that for a fire to occur there has to be some outward factor or person involved. This Informational Documentary will narrate the story of one such homeowner whose house caught fire due to his own misjudgment and carelessness. Attempt will be made to inform the viewers about how to avoid such seemingly harmless carelessness that can have such terrible consequences. Moreover, it will also try to guide viewers about what steps to take once such a fire has been started and how to minimize the resulting damage to people and property. First of all some statistics will be provided that show just exactly what the percentile of the household fires is that are caused by such carelessness. It is estimated that around 14 people a day are victims of household fires, mostly children and the elderly fall into the victims list. A burn victim, who was involved in such an incident whereby his/her own carelessness started the fire, would be showcased and his/her present condition as well as what s/he did wrong and how s/he could have avoided the accident would also be shown to the viewers. A fire safety officer will also be interviewed who will inform the viewers how to avoid such fires and what to do in case such a fire erupts. The fire safety officer will also be asked to demonstrate how best to escape such a fire, in this regard; the help of the local fire department, preferably the one to which the fire safety officer himself belongs, would also be elicited. Short interviews of those who escaped such fires, and how these fires were caused, would also be recorded. The precautions to be taken to avoid such fires or to detect them as early as possible, like the newest smoke detectors and the like would also be taken into
